안녕하세요.
오늘 저는 이번 영어낭독에 대한 도전으로 도서 Don't sweat the small stuff (사소한 일에 목숨걸지 마라) 를 선택했습니다. 집에 있는 책장에 꽂혀있던 오래된 책인데요, 예전에 읽었을 때도 공감했던 기억이 있었고, 마침 챕터가 100개로 나뉘어져 프로젝트100에 딱 맞춤 책이라 생각이 들었습니다.

아직 9월 7일 전이지만, 워밍업 차원에서 단어나 숙어도 찾아보면서 미리 시작해보렵니다.
블로그에서는 Day 1 Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (책 제목과 동일) 에 나온 표현을 익혀보겠습니다.

1. (get) worked up (over/about) : 몹시 흥분하다, 화내다

[영영사전 Cambridge] worked up : upset or very excited about something 예문1) It's easy to get worked up when you're tired and everything seems to be against you. 예문2) He was very worked up about seeing his family again after so many years. |
[본문에 나온 표현] Often we allow ourselves to get all worked up about things that, upon closer examination, aren't really that big a deal. |
2. blow something out of proportion : 침소봉대하다, 과장하다

[영영사전 Cambridge] blow sth out of proportion: to treat a particular event or problem far too seriously: 예문1) It's ridiculous - we have a tiny disagreement and you blow the whole thing out of proportion! 예문2) Of course, when the papers get hold of a story, it's blown out of all proportion. |

3. play out : ~을 유발하다[발생시키다]

[영영사전 Cambridge] When a situation plays out, it happens and develops: 예문) The debate will play out in the media over the next week or two. |

4. pay dividends : 큰 이익을 주다

[영영사전 Cambridge] It has good results at a time in the future: 예문) The company found that the extra training really did pay dividends. |
[본문에 나온 표현] Whether we had to wait in line, listen to unfair criticism, or do the lion's share of the work, it pays enormous dividends if we learn not to worry about little things. |
5. commit to : 전념하다, 헌신하다

[영영사전 Cambridge] to promise or give your loyalty, time, or money to a particular principle, person, or plan of action: 예문1) Like so many men, he has problems committing himself to a relationship. 예문2) The government must commit itself to improving healthcare. 예문3) Once we have committed to this course of action there is no going back. |
[본문에 나온 표현] When you commit to working toward this goal, you will find that you will have far more energy to be kinder and gentler. |
